Emanuel Is a well known Sydney flautist, saxophonist and percussionist who over the past 20 years has played with numerous artists from diverse styles including world music, jazz and devotional music. He studied classical and jazz flute and music theory at the Sydney Conservatorium.
Emanuel’s jazz trio “Flight” was sponsored by Qantas to play at the 2008 World Air Cargo Awards in Shanghai, and was hired by the management of Manly Wharf to play during every Manly Jazz Festival from 2004 to 2009.
He was sponsored by the Brazilian government to play sambas and tropicalia with Jeanne Bastos for the 2010 Carnaval in East Timor, and he played Afrobeat and reggae with Afro Moses at the Basement several times during 2014 and 2015. He played salsa and reggae with visiting American musician Fantuzzi at the 2014 Woodford Folk Festival, and was a member of the reggae/hip hop group “the Zion Band” which played frequently at the Basement and the Vanguard from 2006 to 2010.
He played Indian/jazz fusion at NSW Parliament House for the Indian festival Holi in 2014, and played that fusion style with IndiaJiva at the 2013 Thredbo Jazz Festival.
Emanuel has been involved with music for dance performances and theatre, such as when he composed and played for a production of Hamlet at the Seymour Centre.
He regularly plays for Conscious Dance, especially for Michelle Mahrer’s 5 Rhythms Dance classes (“Conscious Dance” encompasses a variety of dance meditation and therapy techniques).
Over the last 5 years he has been deeply involved with kirtan (yogic devotional music) and has played with many of Australia’s foremost kirtanists such as Sri Prahlad, Carmella Baynie, Edo and Jo, and Lulu and Mischka. He toured China with Carmella Baynie in 2014, and played with American kirtan artist Daphne Tse at the 2014 Bali Spirit Festival.
