Alexandra Ware (25), performing and writing under the artist name Xela, is a proud New Zealand born singer/songwriter currently living in Sydney.
Xela’s musical career was inspired at a young age, where she learned to perform and write songs, and sang in the school choir and rock band. She studied music at secondary school and performed with different bands, ran her own acapella choir, and also sang as lead vocalist with the Wellington Girls/Boys College jazz band. In 2012 she won the ‘Best Lowdown Song’ award at the Wellington Regional Rockquest and in 2013, she sang as part of the multi-media collaborative project ‘Between Zero and One’ by John Psathas and Strike Percussion.
While studying BDes Hons at Massey University, Xela also studied Jazz Vocals and Improvisation at the New Zealand School of Music. She then worked as an artist with Weta Workshop / Magic Leap on their lead mixed reality game ‘Dr G’s Invaders’, which was launched in late 2018.
Xela has performed as a guest singer for several bands in Wellington, including the Drax Project, Sky Canvas, and was a featured vocalist on Name UL’s debut album “Choices”. Xela is currently based in Sydney, establishing herself as a performer, preparing to release her own EP, and collaborating and recording with New Zealand artists.
